Via Ferrata

Via Ferrata Experiences

This is an adventure activity very close to Arrampica’s heart, given that we both originate in Italy.

This is a fun activity which we can offer in the Lake District and in Italy.  A Via Ferrata is a mountain route equipped with fixed ladders, cables, and bridges in order to be accessible to climbers and walkers.  There are varying levels of challenge that can be chosen depending on the level of exposure you experience.

Via Ferrata means ‘Iron Way’.  It refers to steel cable that works its way up steep mountainous terrain and across gullies and rock faces to provide the route and a point to attach to in case of a slip or fall.  The cable and equipment will stop the participant completely falling from the mountain.

You may experience edge exposure, vertical climbs, cliff edge ladders, Burma Bridges and Cargo Net crossings.

It may also involve excitement, nerves, trepidation and confidence building but it is a great fun activity for most.

You will be fully trained to operate your Via Ferrata equipment yourself.  This is essentially two closable karabiners that attach you to the steel cable, although you will need to disconnect these one at a time, you will always be connected by at least one karabiner.

Your guide will explain the system very clearly and you will practise the technique in a safe area with no exposure.

Via Ferrata Honister in the Lake District

These are three great Via Ferrata routes operating from a slate mine with a great café and gift shop.  There is a minimum age restriction of 10yrs and minimum height requirement of 130cm.

The operation of Climb the Mine is not affected by weather conditions, but the operation of Classic and Xtreme can be weather dependent.

This is the original Award Winning product for most ages and abilities. It follows the original Miners route to the top of the Mountain, and is the least challenging option with the least level of exposure.  A perfect introduction to move out of your comfort zone.

Prices: Adult: £45.00, Child (10-15yrs): £37.50

This is a unique experience exploring a disused mine inside the mountain itself. The climb is along bridges, ladders, and rungs at varying heights above the floor of the mine.  This is not a very demanding route but if you would like a challenge opt to climb the very first section rather than climbing the stairs.

Prices: Adult: £34.50, Child (10-15yrs) £24.50

This is an award winning attraction that is the most like the Via Ferrata found in the Dolomite Alps.

It is a more challenging and possibly scary undertaking than the ‘Classic’ Via Ferrata option.

Prices: Adult: £45.00, Child (10-15yrs): £37.50

This is Climb the Mine followed by Xtreme or Classic.  It is a day following Via Ferrata up the side of the mountain and inside it. Explore a disused mine then ascend to the top of the mountain.

Endurance is a truly demanding, strenuous and exhilarating day that takes approximately 3 to 6 hours depending on strength, fitness and weather conditions.

Prices: Adult: £79.50, Child (10-15yrs) £62.00
