Course Base:
The main course base is at the Westway Climbing Centre, 1 Crowthorne Road, London, W10 6RP with the second venue either being Swiss Cottage Climbing Wall at Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre or Chessington Rocks at Chessington Sports Centre, Chessington, Surrey.
Course Availability:
Courses run at least once per month, those shown below are those with remaining availability. If you are part of an organisation and have more than 3 persons wishing to book, ArrampicA can run a course at a time to suit you.
Stages In The Scheme
The scheme comprises:
- Pre-registration personal climbing experience
- Registration and issue of a logbook
- Attend a training course of minimum 12 hours duration for top rope and boulder and a further 6 hours for abseil
- Consolidation period between training and assessment
- Attend 1 day assessment course for top rope and boulder module with abseil module also run later that day
- Continuing experience entered in logbook
TRAINING
ArrampicA runs each training course over 2 days. Candidates should register with the MLTUK and book onto their choice of training dates. The basic training course covers the top roping and bouldering parts of the CWA qualification, the abseiling part is run on the same weekend and involves 2x evening sessions from 5pm until 8pm. ASSESSMENT
ArrampicA runs each assessment over 1 day. Candidates should ensure their logbook is up to date and that they have complied with the pre-assessment criteria as required by the MLTUK. The basic assessment covers the top roping and bouldering parts of the CWA qualification, but not abseiling. The bolt on abseiling part of the assessment runs later on the same day but will require that the candidate passes the initial top rope and boulder module in order to be assessed for abseil. ACCOMMODATION
ArrampicA do not provide accommodation for the CWA courses however a number of travel-lodges and premier travel inns are available throughout the area of W10 6RP
LUNCH
Lunch is available at the café at each venue.
ARRIVAL
Mon-Sat: Sessions start at 08.00 and end at 17.00hrs. (If booked on to the additional abseil module, this runs from 17.00hrs until 20.00hrs)
Sundays: Sessions start at 09.00 and end at 16.00hrs. (If booked on to the additional abseil module, this runs from 17.00hrs until 20.00hrs)
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
You will need to bring your own personal climbing equipment suitable for climbing at an indoor climbing centre + WARM / SUITABLE clothing for prevailing outdoor conditions as we do operate on outdoor structures during the course. (If proceeding onto CWA abseiling bolt on sessions, you will need abseiling equipment + WET weather gear for sessions on the outdoor abseil area).
All ropes will be supplied by the ArrampicA and the Climbing Centres.
Suitable attire for instructing.
You will need to arrive promptly for your course; ArrampicA trainers and assessors will meet you at the start time at reception.
TRAVEL
To Westway Climbing Centre
Road by car: Parking is available at the Westway in their underground car park. Note that at weekends the congestion charge does not apply, but weekdays from 07.00 until 18.00 there is a charge per day, click here (www.cclondon.com) to pay for any weekdays that apply to your course.
Road by motorcycle: Parking is available outside the Westway.
Road by cycle: There are cycle racks directly outside the Westway.
Rail: The nearest tube is at Latimer Road. To walk to the Westway, exit the station and turn right, walk until you are underneath the A40 Westway flyover and turn left after the tall railings that surround the sport pitches. Walk straight on and Westways main sports building is in front of you.

To Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre Climbing Wall
Road by car: Parking is available near the Leisure Centre on residential side streets. As we only use the leisure centre during Sundays, it is generally free.
Road by motorcycle: Parking is available local to the Leisure Centre in various marked bays.
Road by cycle: There are cycle racks directly outside the Leisure Centre.
Rail: The nearest tube is Swiss Cottage. Walk to Leisure Centre / Library (4-5 minutes)

To Chessington Rocks Climbing Wall at Chessington Sports Centre.
Road by car: Parking is available at and near the Sports Centre on residential side streets. As we only use the sports centre during Sundays, it is generally free.
Road by motorcycle: Parking is available local to the Sports Centre in various marked bays.
Road by cycle: There are cycle racks directly outside the Sports Centre.
Rail: The nearest tube is Chessington South. Exit tube station, turn right, walk for a minute or so and turn right into the sports centre / college entrance steps (1-2minutes)
