The 2008 Dolomites season draw to a close, with an enviable list of ascents and adventures over the 3½ weeks in mostly stunning weather. All had a great time with particular notable achievements from Emma and Liam on the Vitatzer route on the 3rd Sella Tower, Frank on an ascent of the famous Cliff Hanger (opening scenes) Vajolet Towers plus a total ascent bagged over the 3 weeks of 7120M of ascent! A great shame that David did not bag his Sasso Lungo and Tofana Rozes combined 1670m of climbing, all at ArrampicA hope that next year the 2 questionable weather days do not fall on your Alpine Guide Days; Roberto your guide was truly gutted, but the Kosnapoff route on the second Sella Tower and the famous 300m Torre Del Lago open book corner on the Fanes range seemed to crack some smiles!
Other accomplishments were for Paul and Stef on their amazing Catinaccio ascent plus Tim on his faster than speed of light climb of the Campanile. Thanks to all our customers for a great time. Paolo, Roberto, Ingrid, Aldo, Lorenzo and Anna.
Well, it looks like it’s going ahead. A new wall for the south at an as yet un-disclosed location will open late 2008 / early 2009. ArrampicA's full involvement in this facility will move the wall to a concentration on great routes and great education. It will be an ABC membership facility (Association of British Climbing Walls) and we are now looking for staff. Positions include reception, instructors (full, part and zero hours contracts available) and management. One thing’s guaranteed, we will eventually aim to provide the BEST cappuccinos in the country!
Congratulations to Chessington Climbing Wall at Chessington Sports Centre for opening evenings, Monday and Thursdays from 6th October 2008, great news and on behalf of all at ArrampicA, we wish the Sports Centre and College all the best. 15 rope lines, bouldering, 4-5 routes per rope line and the friendliest staff you’ll ever meet, it cannot fail. If you wish to visit the new wall, please go to www.chessingtonsportscentre.co.uk for information.
REEBOK CLUB, CANARY WHARF, LONDON
ArrampicA become official providers of climbing services to Reebok with a
launch at Reeboks' award winning flagship gym in the City of London!
THE EVENT WAS AS FOLLOWS:
Climbing Work Shop with ArrampicA - Tuesday 23rd October 1pm - 8pm The club
has teamed up with ArrampicA (named after the Italian word for
climb) a climbing company set up in 2001, who caters for climbing and
mountaineering courses in the English Lake District and Italian Dolomite
Mountains.
There will be 6 SPA and MIA qualified instructors at the club demonstrating
both traditional and new climbing techniques, abseiling and hanging anchor
belays amongst other things. There will be a variety of equipment (tents and
mountaineering equipment) at the base of the wall plus 2 extra staff to talk
with members. Following this event we hope to use member feedback and
suggestions to create a climbing events calendar for next year.
The new Climbing Wall Award arrives
After many years of preparation, the Mountain Training Boards have succeeded in producing a new award to cater for those persons who wish to qualify to supervise groups on artificial climbing structures only. The award will have 2 parts with a potential for more to be added in the future. The first is an award for supervising top roping and bouldering, the second part (having past the pre-requisite first part) is for non walking (top) access and abseiling.
Candidates are advised to register with ArrampicA (click here) and courses look to be available by end 2007/early 2008.
Once a successful pass is attained, the award holder will be in possession of an award that will be recognised throughout the UK.
ArrampicA supports the Westway Climbing Centre for local community climbing
The new board is up at the Westway and it marks a new relationship between ArrampicA and the Westway Climbing Centre, W10. The Westway is a centre that supports the communities of Kensington and Chelsea and now ArrampicA is very happy to be included within this ethos. A percentage of income from ArrampicA will be siphoned into a Westway fund, the idea being, that as business between Westway and ArrampicA increases, that the fund available to support local community climbers will increase.
Westway becomes the centre for the new Climbing Wall Award
ArrampicA’s provider-ship of the MLT’s new climbing wall award scheme will be based at the Westway Climbing Centre, W10. Arrampica Managing Director ‘Paolo Fubini’ stated, ‘The Westway is the perfect venue for this award and thanks must go to John Gibbons and his team for supporting ArrampicA’s application as provider. Accessible by all modes of transport with an enviable range of quality facilities on which to train candidates to include meeting room and audio visual equipment as well as (of course) one of the finest walls in Europe’.
