Mountain skills, navigation and camp-craft courses

Purpose of Course: Depending on the length of your course, skills to be covered will include;

  • Map and compass
  • Using a GPS
  • Planning an overnight expedition
  • Day navigation
  • Night navigation
  • Secure movement over rough ground
  • Equipment
  • Camp-craft
  • Use of stoves
  • Overnight camp
  • Use of trekking poles
  • Use of bothy bags (emergency shelters)


This course is designed to teach customers the skills they will require to enjoy mountain walking in the UK. We will be spending most of each day exploring the Lake District Mountains and Fells whilst developing and practicing the skills required for you to confidently plan, pack, travel, trek in the mountains whilst keeping yourself and your friends out of trouble.

The cost includes: Bunkhouse accommodation and food for the duration of the course

Does not include: Drinks or any snow/ice skills.

Lake  District Mountain Skills Course  3 or 5 day based in the English  Lake District
Experience  requirements - Over 16 years of age
Fit  enough to undertake 4 days walking with a 10 kilo rucksack over rough  ground. Cost    3 day at £295.00 and 5  day at £495.00
Accommodation  – Bunkhouse accommodation is  included in the course as is breakfast, lunch and dinner. A sleeping bag  is required. Transport – ArrampicA  Instructors are more than happy to give clients a lift to outdoor venues  during the course.

If you have arrived via the Virgin Super Train to Oxenholme (Lake District) Station, ArrampicA will collect you from the station and drop you back as long as your accommodation is within 5 miles of Oxenholme.  Kendal town is just 1 mile from Oxenholme and all our recommended accommodation is within the inclusive pick-up / drop-off area.
