|Course Content || |
Training will include: supervising methods, equipment usage and checking, group management, instructing techniques, bouldering, top roping, anchors, belaying, games, warm-up and warm-down, briefings, traversing. The needs of commercial over educational ethos structures.

|Bolt-on Course Content ||Abseil and Top Access Module. Training will include: fall factors, creating and using lanyards/cowstails, setting up and operating abseils at multiple venues. You will need to arrive promptly for your course. Arrampica Trainers and Assessors will meet you at the start time at reception. Saturday 0800 until 1645 hours (abseil module continues 1700-2000 hours). Sunday 1000 hours-1645 hours (abseil module continues 1700 hours -2000 hours)

|Directions And Parking ||To Westway Climbing Centre. Road by car: Parking is available at the Westway in their underground car park. Note that at weekends the congestion charge does not apply, but weekdays from 0700 hours until 1800 hours there is a charge per day, click here to pay for any weekdays that apply to your course. Road by motorcycle: parking is available outside the Westway. Road by cycle: there are cycle racks directly outside the Westway. Rail: the nearest tube is at Latimer Road. To walk to the Westway, exit the station and turn right, walk until you are underneath the A40 Westway flyover and turn left after the tall railings that surround the sport pitches. To Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre Climbing Wall. Road by car: parking is available near the Leisure Centre on residential side streets. As we only use the leisure centre during Sundays, parking is generally free. Road by motorcycle: parking is available local to the Leisure Centre in various marked bays. Road by cycle: there are cycle racks directly outside the Leisure Centre. Rail: the nearest tube is Swiss Cottage. Walk to Leisure Centre/Library (4-5 minutes). To Chessington Rocks Climbing Wall at Chessington Sports Centre. Road by car: parking is available at and near the Sports Centre on residential side streets. As we only use the sports centre during Sundays, parking is generally free. Road by motorcycle: parking is available local to the Sports Centre in various marked bays. Road by cycle: there are cycle racks directly outside the Sports Centre. Rail: the nearest tube is Chessington South. Exit tube station, turn right, walk for a minute or two and turn right into the sports centre/up the college entrance steps (1-2 minutes). |Food ||Food is available in the cafe at the Westway (food cost not included) |
|Accommodation And Local Entertainment ||Accommodation is not included in this course. There are travelodges and premier travel inns in the area and there are numerous options for hotels and B&B's. Cheaper options are the YHA (Youth Hostels) at Holland Park and Earls Court. Note: Holland Park includes breakfast as part of the cost but on Saturday you might have to leave early for Westway so before you go to bed ask reception to arrange an early breakfast for you. |
|Equipment Provided ||All ropes will be supplied by the Arrampica Vertical Adventures and the climbing centres. |
|Equipment Required ||You will need to bring your own personal climbing equipment suitable for climbing at an indoor climbing centre and WARM / SUITABLE clothing for prevailing outdoor conditions as we do operate on outdoor structures during the course. If proceeding onto CWA abseiling bolt on sessions, you will need abseiling equipment and WET weather gear for sessions on the outdoor abseil area and a helmet. Suitable attire for instructing will also be required (if applicable). |
|Equipment Loan ||You can hire harness, climbing shoes, helmet and belay devices from the climbing shop at the Westway: Urban Rock |
|Minimum Age ||17 years |
|Bad Weather ||The course will run. In exceptional circumstances, Swiss Cottage can be subject to winter snow. For the second day, if this is an issue an alternative second day venue will be used. |
|Additional Information ||Bring your MLTE logbook with you to the course. If you can have it filled out, your course Director can offer an opinion on content, and further advice. |

Stages in the CWA scheme: (On this course): registration, attending a training course of minimum 12 hours' duration for top rope and boulder and a further 6 hours for abseil (if booking the bolt-on option). Going forward, a consolidation period between training and assessment is required. You could then attend a 1 day assessment course for top rope and boulder module (with abseil module if applicable run later the same day). Continuing experience entered in logbook.
