The Team

Managing Director & Head Technical Adviser

Paolo set up Arrampica in 2001 to help climbing walls and ropes courses with technical advice and training, during the summer months he ran Via Ferrata and climbing holidays in Italy.

A passionate climber, from climbing with Woking Climbing Club in 1987 Paolo worked at and managed climbing walls, and gained his Mountaineering Instructor Award and International Mountain Leader Award.

When training he is very interested in meeting the needs of different learning styles and ensuring the consolidation of knowledge according to the autonomy scale.

Born and raised in the UK, Paolo is three quarters Italian and very proud of his heritage!

Operations Development Manager

Stephen joined Arrampica following years of experience working in a variety of outdoor activity roles, always involving instructing climbing and ropes courses, as well as leading groups in the great outdoors.  As well as being a trainer and assessor of instructors, Stephen is a first aid trainer, and an inspector.

Stephen has an eye for detail and keeps operations running smoothly at Arrampica.  As a holder of the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health, we often find him looking for reasonable ways to help implement good health and safety practice for our clients’ workplaces, as well as for their adventurous activity provision.

Like a lot of instructors, Stephen does like a shiny bit of gear, so we sometimes encourage this habit and have him review kit for us.

Outside of work, Stephen can be found wandering around his local Yorkshire looking for missing people as part of a Search and Rescue team, or attending 999 calls supporting the Ambulance Service as a Community First Responder.

Tom Reynolds Arrampica

Product Development Manager

Tom joined Arrampica after freelancing for various outdoor pursuits companies and working at a variety of adventure centres. He was previously a head instructor, a role which included managing a very large ropes course and a climbing tower. He also teaches bush craft and camp craft skills to groups of school children on residential courses at a variety of centres across the UK.

As well as training and assessing, Tom oversees all the services and courses we are offering and deals with bookings for our open climbing and ropes course instructor training.

Jenny-Arrampica 100x100

Marketing & Media

Jenny loves being in the outdoors be that fell running, mountain biking or climbing.  She is a qualified maths and music teacher and currently works as a supply teacher.

After studying business for a year she discovered a love of social media and digital marketing; she has gradually taken over this role in the company.

Jenny is the only member of the team who is purely office based.  She currently has an injured wrist after falling off her bike last year.  Once recovered she is planning to complete her Climbing Wall Instructor, Level 2 Mountain Bike Leader and Summer Mountain Leader assessments.

Owen Arrampica

Trainer & Inspector

Owen is passionate about adventure, however it was his love for skateboarding that introduced him to the world of adventure activities.  He began working at The XC Extreme Sports Centre where he was trained by Arrampica to be an instructor for climbing walls, ropes courses and indoor caving and found himself spending as as much time in the climbing wall as the skatepark.

Based in Hertfordshire and London, Owen has continues to work at numerous facilities, developing years of experience instructing, inspecting and managing climbing walls, outdoor educational centres and adventure parks.

Coming full circle Owen now works for Arrampica as a competent PPE inspector, and since qualifying is now also one of the team’s ERCA Trainers for Traditional ropes courses.

Owen has a vast amount of experience in the inspection of rope courses, is a qualified inspector of PPE, wooden poles, wire ropes and Clic-It lanyards, as well as being an adventure park instructor, an IRATA level 1 technician, route setter and climbing coach.

Owen is friendly, praised for his unrivalled  passion and enthusiasm, and when he’s not working you’ll probably find him at the local climbing wall or skatepark!

What our clients say about Arrampica

  • “The guys who took part on the course said it was awesome, that they learned a lot and was really engaging all the time. If anything, the day passed too quickly. Thoroughly enjoyed it without information overload. Please pass on our thanks to all the Arrampica tutors involved.”
  • The course was excellent and it has opened my eyes to some interesting concepts – I will be doing some serious experimentation in the next few months. With regards to improvements, I cannot think of anything else that could possibly be included and even my dreams last night were awash with dreams of ropes and anchors!
  • "I would just like to start by saying thank you for all the training and assessments you have done with me over the past few months. I am extremely grateful for all your time and effort you have put into helping me, and developing my instructing skills. Since completing my CWA abseil module, I feel that your advice, skills and confidence in my abilities has led me to become a better instructor."
  • "I wanted to say thank you for the CWA course that you ran over the weekend. I felt a great sense of achievement from the weekend and your teaching has given me the motivation to make rock-climbing qualifications part of my personal development over the next few years. I even have started thinking about putting my name down to shadow sessions at the XC and other walls."
  • "Having worked on a mobile climbing wall this summer, the course allowed me to gain further knowledge of equipment, technique and solutions. Beyond my personal challenge and interest as a sports development graduate I hope to inspire others to participate in a sport outside the normal offer.”
  • "Was a cracking weekend and I learnt a lot of new skills that I will hopefully use in the future! I can’t really think of any way in which improvements can be made, the weekend’s training was conducted very well and I think we have got the best out of the 2 days. My thanks to Paolo."
  • “I don’t think that I, or any of the students could have asked for anything more from the weekend. From my perspective the weekend was a test of the theory that I have long expounded that indoor walls are the ideal place to introduce outdoor rope handling techniques and safety disciplines. To see the students, under your careful guidance, move seamlessly from climbing wall to rock face, from wall climber to rock climber was a reward in itself!”
